Challenge
MetroWest Medical Center was employing their own teacher for more than 10 years. After looking at the numbers, they realized that they were unable to recoup all their costs. Not only was the program running at a deficit, but they realized they were paying money to have a program that they knew wasn’t reaching its full potential. The kids didn’t want to go to school and when they did, it wasn’t uncommon for them to leave the room very upset. They also found it difficult to evaluate and train their teacher as there were no other teachers in this facility and the administration had no experience as educators.
Solution
LearnWell was able to implement a program that ran at no cost to MetroWest Medical Center and provide the infrastructure that was necessary to have their education program reach its full potential. MetroWest now has a teacher who can manage this challenging classroom environment and keep the kids engaged during class time. The hands-on lessons and the level of passion exem- plified by the LearnWell teacher is a dramatic improvement from what they had previously experienced. In addition, the administration no longer needs to concern themselves with the management and training of this teacher. Now, their teacher is managed and observed by a team of people who are experts in hospital education. Having the ability to evaluate and train a teacher in this environment has led to greater student achievement during their hospitalization. The teacher also has a network of over 100 teachers to participate in lesson sharing and discus- sions on their knowledge, skills and experiences.

The transition from MetroWest’s original program to LearnWell was seamless and has truly made every day easier.
